Martin Drayton

Martin Drayton

Co-Host

Martin is a snowboard instructor and flight attendant by trade, which means he spends around twenty days a month on the road — a lifestyle that turns out to be surprisingly well suited to scale modelling.

Martin's journey into the hobby began at the age of nine, thanks to his dad, building aircraft kits at the kitchen table. Like many modellers, life eventually got in the way and he stepped away from the hobby for more than forty years. It wasn’t until the Covid lockdowns that he rediscovered scale modelling — and this time, it stuck.

After returning through aircraft builds, Martin soon found his way into dioramas, and that completely changed how he approached modelling. The idea of telling a story, capturing a moment, and adding narrative depth to a scene quickly became more important to him than simply finishing a kit.

A recent trip to Scale Model Challenge in the Netherlands, where Martin was fortunate enough to win four medals, helped cement that direction. It encouraged him to push further into more thoughtful, story-driven work and to share what he's learned along the way.
